Zambia
Nanduba 0702 is a group of four women entrepreneurs from Southern Province, Zambia, with an average age of 45 years. Together, they care for 32 dependents and are determined to achieve financial freedom and secure a better future for the children in their care. The women operate poultry and fish-trading businesses, which provide essential food products to their communities while generating income to support their households.
Lukiya is a 48-year-old married mother of four children. Her husband is a businessman, and together they work hard to provide for their family’s needs, including food, education and healthcare.
For the past six years, Lukiya has operated a chicken-rearing business. She raises and sells chickens to customers in her community, providing her household with a reliable source of income. From her previous loan she was able to order more chickens and increase her working capital.
Lukiya requested a share of the group loan to purchase more chickens, feed and other essential supplies. Other group members want to order more goods as well from their loan shares.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
