Ecuador
Gabriel Alexander is a 20-year-old young farmer from Carchi Province, Ecuador. He is single and lives with his parents in a rural community where agriculture and livestock farming are the main sources of income.
From a very young age, Gabriel learned how to work the land from his parents. Today, he rents a two-hectare plot where he grows onions twice a year. He prepares the fields for planting, fertilises the crops in three stages and, finally, harvests his produce.
Gabriel employs around ten temporary workers to help him cultivate the land, and together they produce around 480 sacks of onions per harvest. He sells the onions at local markets in his parish and in the city of Ibarra.
Gabriel requested a loan to help fertilise his crops and support the upcoming production cycle. He will use £275 to purchase agricultural supplies, £200 for fertiliser, £235 for additional crop inputs, and £175 to pay the wages of the people he hires to work on the farm.
With this loan, Gabriel will be able to produce healthy, high-quality onions that he can sell at a profitable price. This will help him increase his income while also creating employment opportunities for people in his community.
Please note that Gabriel will make repayments every six months.
