Nkonkola 0703 Group

Nkonkola 0703 is a group of five hardworking women located in the Southern Province of Zambia. The members are aged between 27 and 56 years, with an average age of approximately 42 years. Four of the women are married, while one is single. Together, they support 46 dependents, 38 of whom are currently attending school. Their businesses include tailoring, poultry farming and grocery sales. Through their businesses, the women earn income to provide food, education and other essential needs for their families.

Misozi, a member of Nkonkola 0703 Group, is a 47-year-old single mother of four who also cares for three orphans. For the past 17 years, she has operated a tailoring business, making and repairing different types of clothing for customers in her community. Her business is an important source of income that enables her to provide food, education and other essential needs for her dependents.

Through her many years of experience, Misozi has developed strong tailoring skills and built a loyal customer base. However, limited working capital makes it difficult for her to purchase enough fabrics, threads and other sewing materials to meet growing customer demand. She plans to use her loan share to buy additional tailoring supplies and expand her business. The loan will help her increase her income and continue supporting her children. Other members of her group also plan to use their shares of the loan to expand their respective businesses.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
