Twalumba 0501 Group

Twalumba 0501 is a group of five married women entrepreneurs based in Eastern Province, Zambia. The members are aged between 23 and 42 years. Together, they care for 48 children and are committed to improving their families’ livelihoods through business. The women operate different businesses, including hair salons and maize bran trading. Through their businesses, they earn income to provide food, education, healthcare and other essential needs for their children.

Rabbecca is a 42-year-old entrepreneur who is married to a businessman and has seven children. Before entering business, she relied on farming to support her family. Determined to establish a more dependable source of income, she opened a salon, which she has successfully operated for the past seven years.

Through hard work and consistency, Rabbecca has built a loyal customer base and gained valuable experience in hairdressing. The salon’s income helps her provide food, education and other essential needs for her children. Her journey from farming to salon ownership demonstrates her resilience and commitment to improving her family’s wellbeing.

Rabbecca has requested a share of the group loan to purchase additional salon equipment and beauty products. The loan will help her serve more customers, increase her income and continue supporting her family. Other group members intend to order more goods from their loan share.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
