Maricel, 43, is married to Rowel, and they have three children. Their eldest has already graduated, their second child is currently in college and their youngest is four years old. Her husband is also her business partner. Before starting her eatery business, Maricel served as a Barangay Councillor for 13 years.
After completing her term as a Barangay Councillor, Maricel started an eatery business last year. She was pleasantly surprised by how well the business performed, largely because it is located near a university where many students live. She invested a substantial amount of capital to establish the business, purchasing all the necessary equipment and supplies.
Maricel employs four workers, including one cook, while she personally manages the purchasing of supplies and the day-to-day operations. As the eatery is in a prime location, she pays rent for the premises. The eatery opens early in the morning and often closes late at night. Business is particularly strong during the academic term when students are on campus, and sales decline during school holidays.
Maricel is applying for a loan to increase the working capital of her eatery. The loan will be used to purchase additional food supplies and other items needed to support and expand the business.
