Turnpike 0706 Group

Turnpike 0706 is a women’s group based in Southern Zambia that runs several small businesses, including poultry farming, banana trading, and grocery sales. The group has five members, four married and one single, with an average age of 41. Together, they support 42 dependents, 39 of whom are currently in school while 3 have not yet started.

For nearly a decade, Kasamba has been a pillar of her community, demonstrating how dedication and a clear vision can transform a small endeavour into a thriving enterprise. For eight years, she has navigated the challenges of the poultry industry, growing her business through resilience and a deep commitment to her family’s future.

Kasamba’s motivation is rooted in her home. As a mother of five and a guardian to an orphan, she manages a household of six children. Her poultry business is not just a source of income; it is the engine that ensures every child in her care is fed, clothed, and educated. From her previous loan she was able to improve her working capital whilst sponsoring her children to school.

Success in poultry requires sufficient capital. Kasamba has requested a share of the group loan so that she can order 150 chickens, feed, vaccines, and heaters, while other group members want to order stock with their share of the loan.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
