Luse 0606 Group

In the Southern Province, a collective of women has come together to form a group called Luse 0606. This collective operates different businesses ranging from poultry to trading dried food, fruits, and vegetables. They share the same goal of uplifting their lives and those of the 42 children in their care by providing for their schooling. They are all married, with an average age of 48 years.

Aged 38, Abbygirl is a testament to the power of adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit. For over half a decade, she has been a mainstay in the local poultry industry, but her path to success began in a very different setting, namely that of her hair salon.

Abbygirl owned and operated a successful salon, it was here that she sharpened her skills in customer service, financial management, and the discipline required to run a daily business. While the salon provided a steady income, Abbygirl recognized an opportunity to tap into the growing demand for local food production. She applied the same dedication to her poultry that she once did to her clients.

Abbygirl has now applied for a loan to buy 200 chickens, feed, feeders, and vaccines to meet the growing demand for poultry in her community; other group members also want to order stock to improve their own businesses.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
