The CAF Gloria group, based near Lomé, consists of three members with five dependants, including one school-age child. The average age of the members is 50. The group’s activities mainly involve the sale of beads, traditional cloth, tapioca, gari and smoked fish.
Soglo Essi Fabienne sells smoked fish. She has been running her business for seven years, selling at the market and making home deliveries. She is single and the sole carer for her child. Thanks to her share of the loan, she plans to buy more smoked fish to sell on and increase her income. Before this loan, she did not have enough stock to generate higher income. The profits generated will be saved to support her future goals, notably building a house. The members believe that this loan will enable them to expand their business by increasing their stock and improving their sales capacity.
