Ecuador
José Antonio is 41 years old, single and has a three year old son. He lives in the province of Imbabura in Ecuador. José works in agriculture and has spent the past six years growing beans, a skill he learned from a young age with his parents and relatives. His work allows him to support his household and provide for his son’s education.
He works daily on his land where he grows beans. His process includes preparing the soil, planting seeds, fertilising the land and harvesting twice a year. To ensure a successful harvest, José employs fifteen workers who help care for the crops. Each year he produces around 200 quintals of beans which he sells in the local market.
In addition, José raises chickens which provide extra income for his household.
José Antonio applied for a loan to begin a new planting cycle. He plans to use £150 for land preparation, £100 for bean seeds and £150 for wages. He will also invest £350 in supplies and fertiliser. This loan will help him improve production, increase his income and continue supporting his young son.
Please note that loan repayments will be made every six months.
