Emmanuel is a 41 year old married man. He lives with his wife and their two children who are going to school. Emmanuel and his wife are farmers. They grow a variety of crops but he focuses on his coffee plantation.
Emmanuel belongs to an association of coffee-growers in the region. The association members have machines for processing the coffee and selling it on the market. As well as the coffee, Emmanuel also grows beans on part of his land, which will be harvested in a few months’ time. He finds it a challenge to grow coffee but he thinks it is worth it since he can make a decent profit from selling it.
He has requested a loan to invest in good quality fertilisers, plant compost and vitamins to increase production. With the remaining money he will also employ 5 people to help harvest the coffee. With the extended land together with his old coffee farmland he hopes that in one year he will be able to harvest around a ton of coffee beans each fortnight.
