Edwin Anderson

Edwin is 26, married and he has a two year old daughter. He and his young family live in a family home, in Carchi province in Ecuador. Edwin works as a farmer to pay for his household expenses and his daughter’s education. Eight years ago, he started doing work on other peoples’ farms, being paid by the day.

With the benefit of his knowledge, Edwin also started sowing his own seeds on three hectares of rented land. He employees fifteen people on his farm, to prepare the land, to make the furrows, to sow the pea seeds, to maintain the crops and do the harvesting. As a result of his hard work and dedication, every year he harvests 120 packs of peas, and all the packs are sold in the local market in tne parish.

He also works on other peoples’ farms, being paid by the day, to generate additional income to support his household finances.

Edwin has requested a loan, which he will use for fertilising his crops. He plans to buy agricultural supplies for £1,125, fertilisers for £675, and he will pay £450 for the wages of twenty people who will fertilise his crops. He hopes that by sowing these plants he will increase his profit so he can buy some land for building his own home and be able to offer his child a better future.
