Richar Bolívar, 19, is single and lives in the province of Carchi, Ecuador. A year ago, he decided to generate his own income and contribute to his parents' expenses. With their support Richar began working, planting seeds in the family garden. This allowed him to gain knowledge and experience at a young age.
On his one-hectare family farm, he grows potatoes, employing 15 people who help him prepare the land, plant the seed potatoes, fertilise the crop, and harvest the produce. Through this collective effort, his farm yields around 17 tonnes each year. All of his production is sold to local merchants who pick up the sacks of potatoes directly from his farm.
In addition, Richar works as a day labourer on other farms, generating extra income for his family.
Richard has applied for a loan, which he will use to fertilise his potato plants and obtain a healthy harvest. He will use the loan to purchase 20 sacks of agricultural inputs and fertiliser.
