Sothea is a 42 year old farmer, married with two sons. He lives in Sangke District of Battambang Province. He farms short term rice for sale as every year which provides a source of income for his family.
This is the third loan that Sothea has applied for from Lendwithcare. His second loan was used to cover his rice farming costs. He farms short-term rice on seven hectares of land. He is able to cultivate this rice twice a year, which yields four tonnes per hectare. The crops are then sold directly to a local middleman who buys from his village. To get increase his crop, he rents another three hectare plot of rice paddy at a cost of £190 per hectare per year.
Now that it is time to plant his short-term rice again, he decided to request a loan as he is lacking in working capital at the moment. The loan will be used to purchase a range of inputs, including seeds, crop protection products, and fuel for his tractor, diesel for water pump, and to pay for the rent and harvesting costs.
