Luyando 0703 Group

Luyando 0703 group based in Southern Region, is made up of four women. They trade in dry fish, run poultry farms and some are engaged in the growing of vegetables and maize. These are among the common commodities in the country and hence are fast selling. Their 37 children are between the ages of 2 and 25. Two of the women are married while the rest are single. The reason the women started their businesses was because they opted for financial independence and financial stability

Theresa is a member of this group. She is 48 years old, married, and a mother of five children. Theresa earns her income through gardening, where she grows and sells fresh vegetables to people in her community. Her customers include neighbours and other local households who prefer buying fresh produce nearby.

She started gardening because it allows her to both grow food and earn income from the same activity. By carefully managing her garden, Theresa is able to harvest vegetables and sell them to community members who need fresh ingredients for their meals. The income she earns helps her contribute to school needs, food, and other household expenses.

With her portion of the group loan, Theresa plans to buy more seeds and farming inputs so she can expand her garden and increase production. The rest of the group members plan to invest in their small businesses by buying more stock for trading and food-related businesses.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
