Ecuador
Please note: Due to the current economic and social instability in Ecuador, the country is experiencing record levels of regional displacement and migration. While this is not a pattern we are seeing across the country, it is worth noting that during this time your loans in Ecuador may be at more risk of delay or non-repayment.
Cecibel is a small food entrepreneur who runs a microenterprise eatery dedicated to selling lunches, dinners and fast food, mainly on weekends. She lives with her partner, Osamni, who works as a labourer, and they have three children aged 15, 11 and 9 who are currently all at school. Her passion for cooking began in childhood while helping her mother prepare meals for farm workers, which inspired her to start her own small food business using household equipment.
Cecibel’s household receives approximately £372 per month from her salary at the parish council and about £158 from her partner’s labouring. Her microenterprise generates around £732 in monthly sales. Household expenses are approximately £305 per month, while business operating costs are about £332. After covering these expenses, the business generates an estimated monthly profit of about £400. However, the high cost of raw ingredients limits the growth of her food service activity.
In order to support the growth of her eatery business, Cecibel has now applied for a loan. She will use this to purchase an industrial fryer, allowing her to improve her food preparation capacity, increase production efficiency and expand her small food business.
