Rwanda
Obed is a 32 year old entrepreneur. He is single and lives with his parents in the southern province of Rwanda. Obed runs a bakery, where he produces handmade bread and doughnuts. He sells his baked items in bulk to shop owners in his district, as well as to retail clients.
Obed took up baking as a profession because, while growing up, he realised it could provide a profitable business as most people eat bread or doughnuts for breakfast. Sandwiches and doughnuts are also popular for a quick lunch or an afternoon tea. It took him several years to become a baker and he started his bakery just a seven years ago. Although his business is running well and he would like to expand it, he does not have sufficient savings to do so. He has therefore applied for a loan in order to invest in an industrial mixer and to buy additional baking ingredients such as sugar, flour, yeast, eggs, salt, milk and oil.
He also plans to hire two permanent workers to assist with his bakery business. With this loan he hopes that his earnings will increase and his business will be increasingly sustainable.
