Ecuador
Hector is a 57-year-old farmer who lives with his wife, Isabel María, and their seven children, who help with agricultural and livestock activities. He has worked in farming since the age of fifteen, learning alongside his parents and gradually building his own production.
Through dedication and hard work, Hector has supported his household, contributed to his family’s wellbeing, and steadily strengthened his small farming enterprise.
Hector grows beans on around one hectare of land in the Capilla Alta area, harvesting every three months and selling his produce at the Catamayo market. His microenterprise generates average monthly sales of about £450. Operating costs, mainly for organic inputs and labour, are around £200, leaving an estimated monthly net profit of £250. Despite steady demand, crop pests and fluctuating market prices continue to affect productivity and income stability.
Hector will use the loan to purchase organic fertilisers, agricultural supplies, and labour support to maintain and improve his bean crops. This investment will help sustain production, increase yields, and provide greater financial stability for his family.
