Ecuador
Erika Maritza (31) is a married woman with two children who lives with her family in Imbabura, northern Ecuador. She has been working in agriculture for eight years. From a young age, Erika gained experience working on other people’s farms, which allowed her to develop the skills to manage her own crops and generate income to support her household.
Erika currently cultivates tender beans, which are highly valued and sell well in local markets. Each year, she employs fifteen workers to assist with planting, field maintenance, fertilisation, and harvesting, producing around 340 sacks of tender beans for sale in local markets.
To expand her farming activities, Erika applied for a loan. She plans to use the funds as follows: 20% to purchase tomato seedlings, 25% for general agricultural inputs, 30% for fertiliser, and 25% to pay labourers working in her fields.
With this support, Erika will begin planting tomatoes, achieve a successful harvest, increase her income, and provide employment opportunities for more local workers in her community. Please note that loan repayments will be made every six months.
