Near Lomé there is a three-member women’s group called CAF Progrès. They have an average age of 42 and between them they support eight dependents, including six school-aged children. All of the members of the group are resellers and engaged in various commercial activities such as the sale of cloth, charcoal, kitchen utensils, and other miscellaneous products.
Akouavi is one of the members of this group. She is aged 54, married and has three school-aged children. Her husband is a bricklayer. She started her business over five years ago selling tinned tomatoes, soap, biscuits and kitchen utensils from a stall.
She will use her share of the loan to buy more goods for her store, including food, soap and kitchen utensils. This will enable her to satisfy the demands of a wider range of customers and grow her business, resulting in increased profits which will be re-invested for further growth.
The other members of this group will use their shares of the loan to expand their own businesses.
