Evelyn is 46 years old and is the mother of three children in full-time education, ranging in turn from attending college, high school, and elementary school. The family lives in the province of Cebu where Evelyn and her husband, Julius, have a thriving business running a junk-shop and recycling business.
Evelyn and her husband have run their junk-shop business for the past 20 years. It is a thriving business in which they buy and sell recyclable materials such as steel, plastic cans, bronze, aluminium, and other metal materials. They purchase these materials from nearby areas, with some customers delivering the items to their junk-shop, while others are collected by the couple depending on customer arrangements.
They have their own bongo truck and on alternate days they travel to purchase stock, which is then subsequently segregated by themselves before selling on. The recycled materials are then sold four times a week in Talisay, Cebu using their own truck which is driven by Julius. They employ one assistant who helps with the loading and unloading of materials as needed.
Typical sales from the business amount to about £1000 – sufficient to provide a reliable source of income to support the family. To earn some extra income they also operate a grocery store which is located beside the junk-shop and thereby needs to extra staff to operate it.
Increasingly there have been opportunities to purchase stock in larger quantities, for example just last month Evelyn and her husband needed additional funds to purchase three junk cars and vehicles – profitable business but requiring extra working capital - hence the application for this loan.
