Ecuador
Rómulo Eusebio is a 55-year-old farmer living in the rural area of Carchi province. Originally from Colombia, he emigrated to Ecuador with his family at a young age. Since then, he has worked in agriculture, initially for other farmers, and for the past 30 years he has managed his own farm, raising fattening cattle and cultivating crops on his land.
Rómulo works with great dedication on his farm, caring for his livestock. He currently owns three dairy cows and two fattening cattle. Each morning, Rómulo and one hired worker prepare containers and collect 15 litres of milk daily, which they deliver to local collection centres.
He also tends to his potato field, which covers one hectare. Rómulo employs five workers who assist with soil preparation, planting, fertilising, and harvesting. Thanks to this collective effort, he produces 540 quintals of potatoes annually, sold at £7.60 per quintal in local city markets.
To fertilise his crops and achieve a successful harvest, Rómulo applied for a loan. Around 50% of the loan will be used to purchase fertilisers, approximately 40% will go towards other agricultural supplies, and roughly 10% will be allocated to pay the orchard workers.
With this support, Rómulo will improve his crop yields, strengthen his farm, and provide employment opportunities for his community. Please note that loan repayments will be made every six months.
