Nanduba 0702 Group is made up of four entrepreneurial women aged between 30 and 60 years. They are either married or single mothers with a total of thirty-two children among them. Their children either attend school or assist their mothers in running their small enterprises, while the husbands of the married members also play an active role in supporting the businesses. The women’s ventures include selling dry maize in the main market and rearing chickens for sale.
One of the members, Lukiya, is a single mother of six children. She works tirelessly to provide for her family, ensuring that her children never feel the absence of a father in their lives. Previously, she worked as a pre-school teacher, but her salary was not sufficient to meet the needs of her growing family. Determined to create a better life, she decided to venture into business, and she has never looked back.
Today, selling maize and rearing village chickens has proven to be far more rewarding than her former job. With her previous loan from Lendwithcare, Lukiya was able to expand her capital, restock maize, and purchase more chickens. Her dedication has paid off and her profits have enabled her to send two of her children to university, while the other two are currently in high school.
With her portion of this new loan, Lukiya plans to buy more maize from local farmers and increase her chicken stock to further grow her business. The other members of Nanduba 0702 will use their shares of the loan to purchase additional stock for their own enterprises, helping them continue to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Zambia employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Zambia all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
