Ecuador
Milton Vinicio is a 33-year-old farmer who lives with his family in Imbabura Province, northern Ecuador. He is single and has a young son for whom he pays child support. Milton has been working in agriculture for 15 years, having learned from an early age on his family’s farms, carrying out tasks such as clearing land, planting, and tending crops. This experience allowed him to establish his own plots and manage his own harvests.
Milton cultivates granadillas and maize (choclo) and employs 20 workers to assist with caring for and fertilising the crops. Through this collective effort, he produces approximately 1,470 boxes of granadillas and 150 sacks of maize. Each box of granadillas sells for around £14 and each sack of maize for around £15, with prices varying by season.
To improve production in his farm, Milton has requested a loan. He plans to invest £892 in agricultural supplies, £372 in fertilisers, £372 in stakes to support his crops and ensure high-quality produce, and £668 in wages for his workers. This investment will help Milton increase his productivity, improve the quality of his harvests, and secure a better income for his family.
