Marwan is 52 years old and lives with his wife and five children in a community located near Nablus in the West Bank. Four of his children are under 18, and one is now studying at university.
Marwan has been a farmer for more than eight years and owns two acres of land, where he usually grows courgettes, cucumbers, and green beans. He sells his produce in the local markets close to home.
He applied for a loan from Reef Microfinance to begin a new farming cycle. He plans to allocated half to land reclamation, a quarter to purchasing high-quality seeds, and the remaining quarter to purchasing organic fertilisers.
Marwan estimates his monthly income at $1,200. He hopes the loan will allow him to continue farming and successfully plant his next crop cycle so he can support his family through challenging times.
