Jacquelyn

Jacquelyn, 29, is a single mother of two sons, and they live in the province of Cebu. Since July last year, she has been managing her sister’s ukay-ukay (second-hand clothing) store while her sister works abroad. The store not only provides her with a livelihood but also serves as a vital source of support. Prior to this, Jacquelyn worked as a cashier in a shopping mall.

Jacquelyn started managing the business after it was initially set up by her sister, who is now working abroad. As a single mother, Jacquelyn took over the day-to-day operations to support both herself and her children. The ukay-ukay (second-hand clothing) store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and they rent the location as it is situated along the highway.

On regular days, the shop earns around £39, while sales on weekends reach up to £65. Jacquelyn has one staff member helping her run the store. In a typical month, they open about 15 bales of various items, including trousers, t-shirts, shorts, men's shirts, and jogging bottoms, all of which they purchase from suppliers in the city.

Jacquelyn works hard to provide for her children, as she is their sole provider. She has applied for a loan from Lendwithcare to add capital to the ukay-ukay business. Her goal is to purchase a wider variety of bales in order to increase sales and grow the business further.
