Ecuador
Wilmer Ramiro is a 23-year-old entrepreneur from Carchi, in northern Ecuador. He grew up in a rural area where agriculture and livestock farming are the main sources of income. From a young age, Wilmer learned how to cultivate the land and raise livestock from his parents. Upon reaching adulthood, he decided to start his own business to earn an income independently.
Today, Wilmer works in agriculture, focusing on planting, maintaining orchards, fertilising crops, and harvesting on other people’s land. In addition, he has spent the past four years developing his own livestock business. On his farm, he cares for and feeds one calf and eight young bulls.
Wilmer has built his assets through hard work and by accessing credit, which has enabled him to gradually purchase calves and grow his business. He applied for a loan to plant pasture on a plot of family land, providing feed for his bulls.
He plans to invest 15% of the loan in grass seed, 25% in vitamins and vaccines for the animals, and the remaining 60% in posts and wire to build a secure fence, allowing him to graze his livestock more safely.
