Ecuador
Oscar Aníbal, 41, lives in Carchi province in the north of Ecuador. He is married with three children—two sons, aged 12 and 16, who are in secondary school, and a one-year-old daughter who is cared for by his wife. To cover household expenses and support his sons’ education, Oscar and his wife run a cattle farming business, producing milk and raising animals for fattening.
Oscar has been involved in cattle farming for the past 20 years. From a young age, he helped his parents on the farm, tending to the cattle. After leaving school, he started his own business, and over the years, with the support of his wife, he has continued to learn and develop his skills on his own farm. Currently, they have three dairy cows and seven bullocks, which they are raising and fattening. His wife is responsible for milking the cows, and the milk is then sold to local milk collection centres.
Oscar has applied for a loan to purchase four additional dairy cattle for £1,121, as they are available at an affordable price in the market. He also plans to invest £1,121 in renting a plot of grassland to feed his cattle. This investment will expand the size of his farm and increase milk production, allowing them to sell more milk at the collection centres.
