Ecuador
Please note: Due to the current economic and social instability in Ecuador, the country is experiencing record levels of regional displacement and migration. While this is not a pattern we are seeing across the country, it is worth noting that during this time your loans in Ecuador may be at more risk of delay or non-repayment.
Tanya is a 50-year-old woman, single, and without direct dependents. She lives in a quiet area in Santa Rosa, where her microenterprise is also located. Since 2021, Tanya has been dedicated to selling food, specifically snacks, breakfasts and lunches, which she provides to the workers and employees of a banana plantation in the canton of Arenillas.
Her interest in entrepreneurship began thanks to advice from her sister, who suggested she open a business at the banana plantation, as Tanya was known for her excellent cooking skills. Despite her initial fears, Tanya took the leap, and once the workers tasted her dishes, success was immediate. Since then, demand has grown, and she has continued her activity without any issues, offering a variety of affordable meals priced between £1.20 and £2.40 per plate. Currently, her microenterprise generates a monthly income of around £1,290, selling an average of £580 in meals, including snacks, breakfasts and lunches.
In terms of finances, her household income totals £1,370 per month, of which £1,290 comes from the microenterprise and £80 from the human development bond. Her monthly expenses amount to £220 for household needs and £740 for business operations. This leaves her with a monthly profit of £550, a figure that has allowed her to cover her personal needs and continue growing.
Tanya has achieved several milestones with her business, including purchasing a white goods set for her home and new kitchen utensils. Additionally, she plans to expand her microenterprise by offering home-cooked traditional meals upon request, which would allow her to diversify her income.
Tanya has requested a loan to buy an industrial kitchen and a freezer, which will enable her to improve her production capacity and better serve her customers. She plans to repay the loan in 12 monthly installments and hopes to strengthen her business further to continue providing better service to the community.
