Raing, a 29-year-old farmer from Morng Russey district in Battambang Province, Cambodia, has been farming for over a decade. Together with her husband and two sons, she has built a livelihood growing wet season rice on five hectares of land, yielding about 3 tonnes of rice per hectare each harvest. She sells her rice to a local merchant who purchases directly from her village.
To expand her farming operations, Raing has applied for a 36-month loan to purchase an additional 5,000 square meters of farmland. She plans to cultivate wet season rice on this new plot, where she anticipates achieving a higher yield of 1.5 tonnes of rice (3 tonnes per hectare).
With this investment, Raing’s total farming area will increase to 5.5 hectares, allowing her to scale up her production and secure a stronger financial future for her family. She looks forward to the opportunity to maximise her rice farming potential and improve her family's livelihood.
