Rosa is a farmer who lives in Cuellaje which is in the tropical part of Cotacachi, in Ecuador. She is 54, married and has three children who are at secondary school. From a young age she went with her parents as they worked on the farm, harvested their produce and sowed the plants. When she grew up, she decided to farm her own crops.
Rosa has been farming her own produce for the past 30 years, and now she grows bush tomatoes, beans and passionfruit. Rosa and her husband have been having training and have been receiving technical assistance in their community. They have been able to put these skills into action on their farm, so that they can grow high quality produce which can fetch a good price at market.
So that she can increase her business, Rosa has requested a loan. She plans to use 40% to buy fertiliser, a further 40% to buy agricultural supplies, and 20% to buy a strimmer which her husband will use to work with, to generate extra household income.
Please note that this loan will be repaid in instalments every 12 months.
