Ecuador
Néstor, a 45-year-old farmer from La Colonia, Cotacachi, Ecuador, has been farming for the past six years to support his household. He is married with two children, and together with his wife, he has turned their farm into a productive and profitable venture. The tropical climate of their region is ideal for cultivating a variety of fruits, including passion fruit, tree tomatoes, and beans
Néstor and his wife work diligently to ensure that their crops are of high quality, free from infestations, and well-maintained. Their efforts result in the harvest of 1,064 boxes of passion fruit, 684 sacks of tree tomatoes, and 4,500 kg of dried beans, which they sell at wholesale markets in Quito.
Néstor's farming business generates a monthly income of £586 and yearly profits of £1,122, thanks to the diversity of crops that allow for a stable income throughout the year. However, Néstor has a vision to expand his farming operations further. He has requested a loan to purchase a plot of land adjacent to his current farm. With this additional land, he plans to clear and fertilise it ahead of the new planting season, which will enable him to increase his crop production.
The expansion of his farm will double his income, allowing him to repay the loan within 36 months. The increased production will not only improve his household income but also secure a better future for his family. Néstor’s goal is to continue growing his farm, ensuring financial stability, and contributing more to the local agricultural economy.
