Pakistan
The Sakhawat Group comprises of 7 members living in a village in the district of Kasur in northeastern Pakistan. All of the group members are male smallholder farmers aged between 21 and 36. The group has a joint total of 40 dependents in their households. In total, they have 28 children in their households, 14 of whom are in school while others are infants. All of the group member are married.
Iftkhar Ahmad is a member of the group. He is 31 years old and married with six children, three daughters and three sons. Three of them are school going and others are infants. His wife takes care of household chores. One of the main challenges he faces is being able to rent a tractor. He owns 7 acres of land. He plants wheat in the winter and rice in the summer.
On average, Iftkhar Ahmad estimates that he earns around £1,350 per year in total. He and his community group requested a loan to buy a tractor. Although there will be an initial outlay, in the long run, the group believe they will save money by not having to pay for renting a tractor. This will help them also to use the tractor when they wish rather than having to wait for one to become available.
Please note that loan repayments will be made every six month during the loan term.
