The Mubarak II Group comprises 4 members living in the district of Kasur. All of the group members are male smallholder farmers aged between 22 and 30. In total, they have 5 children in their households, one of whom is in education while others are infants.
Muhammad Rizwan, a 24-year-old unmarried farmer, is one of the members of the Group. He lives with his elderly parents, and his mother manages the household chores. Muhammad Rizwan owns about 3 acres of land, where he cultivates wheat in the winter and rice in the summer, earning an estimated annual profit of £837.
Currently, Muhammad Rizwan and the other group members use a tube well powered by diesel and electricity for irrigation. However, this method has become expensive due to rising fuel costs and is also harmful to the environment. To address these issues, the group has applied for a loan to purchase and install a 5.5-kilowatt solar tube well with 10 solar panels. This system harnesses solar energy to power the well, offering a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly irrigation solution.
Although the initial investment is substantial, the group expects to save money in the long run by eliminating the need for costly diesel. Additionally, the solar tube well will operate quietly and reduce their environmental impact. By having access to reliable and affordable irrigation, they anticipate increased yields and profitability. This initiative also reflects their commitment to embracing technological advancements in resource management.
Please note that repayments are scheduled on months 6, 12, and 18 during the 18-month loan term.
