Togo
On the outskirts of the capital of Togo, Joyce Women’s Empowerment Collective is comprised of eight determined women, with an average age of 26. These members work as saleswomen, vending a variety of essential goods such as general supplies, food, yams, and eggs. Together, they strive to support a combined total of ten dependents, six of whom are children currently attending school.
Kokoe, a 40-year-old grocer, operates a food stall in the market with over 12 years of experience in her trade. As a widow and a devoted mother, she shoulders the responsibility of managing household expenses single-handedly, ensuring her children receive an education at the local school.
Prior to joining the group, Kokoe grappled with challenges in adequately providing for her customers due to frequent stock shortages. However, she is now determined to enhance her business. With the assistance of this loan, she intends to procure a wide range of fresh produce and shelf-stable cans. Kokoe is confident that this strategic move will attract more customers, facilitating the growth of her enterprise. Looking ahead, she aspires to realise her goal of opening a larger store.
With the anticipated profits from her loan, Kokoe plans to save towards her children’s future and reinvest back into her business, fostering its continued development.
