Marife is a 47 year old married woman with seven beautiful daughters. Two of her children are now independent while the younger five are at various stages of primary and secondary education. She is a farmer, growing various crops and is assisted in this work by her husband (and her daughters during school holidays).
Marife is a new member of FCCT Cooperative. Her family owns 3 hectares of land, 2 hectares of which is planted with vegetables and root crops such as Chayote, Onions, Squash, Cabbage, and Pepper. They also have both banana trees and Coconut Trees. As a new member of the coop, they are still attending on-going training to adopt the takakura technology of composting for their farm. Until that training is completed, they are using foliar fertiliser and commercial fertiliser. When the vegetables are harvested they sell them in the local market from Friday to Sunday. Some of their crops are sold to a wholesaler who buys from them in bulk. Currently their weekly income ranges from about 4000 to 6000 (£56 to £84) according to the crops harvested. She now plans to cultivate other vacant land in her area to extend her vegetable planting and increase the family income.
Please note that repayments are scheduled on months 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 24 during the 24-month loan term.
