Chanya

Chanya, a 64-year-old single woman, resides in a Khmer community in Surin province, Thailand. Her family includes her younger sister, a brother-in-law, an adult nephew, two adult nieces, and a 9-year-old grandchild.

The family sustains itself through diverse occupations such as rice farming and factory work primarily. Additionally, Chanya supplements their income by skilfully weaving silk cloth for sale. Growing up in a household where rice farming and silk weaving were the mainstay for generations, Chanya acquired these skills early in life.

Beyond her agricultural pursuits, Chanya has managed a silk-weaving business for almost three decades. Her expertise extends to not only weaving silk cloth but also providing dyeing and pattern-making services. Upon completion of silk cloth products, she markets them through online platforms, catering to both online customers and local textile merchants.

Driven by the escalating demand for silk cloth, Chanya envisions expanding her business to meet market needs. She also aspires to create a new silk cloth pattern for sale and intends to pass on her skills to future generations within her family. To bolster her business endeavours, Chanya requested a loan to acquire 18kg of silk thread, 50 boxes of coloured dyes, plastic ropes, and essential materials necessary for producing high-quality silk cloth for sale.
