Judith Margarita

Judith Margarita is an enterprising woman who resides in the province of Carchi, Ecuador. She is 59 years old and widowed. Despite losing her husband, Judith has shown great determination to work hard and provide herself with a comfortable life.

To support household expenses, Judith has dedicated a significant part of her life to working in the fields, primarily cultivating onions and tender beans. She cultivates her products four times a year on a one-hectare plot of land. She has been diligently working on her crops for 30 years and is immensely proud of her achievements.

Additionally, Judith set up a small grocery store in her house where she sells everyday items such as rice, sugar, non-perishable goods, eggs, and others, aiming to generate additional income for her household.

Annually, Judith produces 240 sacks of onions and 100 quintals of tender beans. She sells each harvest to traders: a sack of onions for $10 and a bag of beans for $30. To further improve the production of her crops, Judith requested a $6,000 loan payable in 36 monthly instalments. She plans to allocate $640 for purchasing carrot seeds, $1,050 for onion seeds, $930 to buy organic fertilisers to nurture the crops during their productive cycle, and $975 to acquire agricultural inputs to enrich the soil. Additionally, she will invest $260 in hiring individuals to assist her in cultivating and caring for her plants, and $1,000 in purchasing a fumigation pump for her crops. Furthermore, she will spend $900 on buying candies, milk, eggs, and hygiene products to stock in her store.
