Ecuador
Deibid lives in the region of San Jose-Cayambe, in northern Ecuador. At 22 years old, he has forged an impressive path in the world of cattle farming, specifically in milk production. Despite his young age, he is determined to continue growing his microenterprise.
Deibid is a single man with no family dependants, which has given him the freedom to focus on his passion for cattle. His story began in 2002 when his mother gave him a cow. Over time, this cow gave birth, and Deibid knew he had found his calling. Using the profits earned in about half a year, he invested in buying another cow.
Today, Deibid is a thriving milk producer with two cows and two calves. His day starts early in the morning, tending to his livestock and milking his cows. He has developed a routine that ensures the quality and quantity of milk production. Deibid's dedication to his microenterprise has paid off significantly. He now produces approximately 40 litres of milk daily, generating an estimated monthly income of $502 (£412). With a keen eye for growth, he has expanded his assets by acquiring more cattle. His initial cow has become a symbol of his journey, a reminder of where he began.
However, Deibid faces challenges in the form of rising agricultural input costs. The success of his microenterprise is at stake unless he can secure the resources needed to continue growing. Therefore, Deibid is seeking a $1,500 (£1,230) loan to purchase a high-yield Holstein cow, renowned for its exceptional milk production. With this investment, he aims to increase his production capacity, secure his microenterprise's future, and continue making a difference in his community. He will repay the loan in 14 monthly instalments
