Ecuador
Ronald Gabriel is a 24-year-old young farmer who lives in the rural area of the province of Imbabura, in northern Ecuador. Ronald is single and has a child for whom he pays child support. From a young age, he has been working in agriculture, skills he inherited from his parents. For the past four years, he has been cultivating passion fruit on a one-hectare plot of land and raising livestock.
Ronald harvests his products twice a year and sells them to traders and at the organic produce market in the city. In addition, he has six young bulls that he cares for and feeds for nine months before selling them at animal fairs. To strengthen his agricultural activities, Ronald is requesting a $2,000 loan to be repaid in 24 instalments, with 8 quarterly payments. He plans to invest $900 in the purchase of galvanised cable and $620 in the acquisition of posts to provide proper support for his passion fruit cultivation. Additionally, he will invest $480 in hiring individuals to work in the care and fertilisation of the crops. His products will be ready for harvest in one month and six months respectively and will be sold at $13 per box.
