Mrs. Nary is 40 years old married woman with three children between the ages of 16 and 12 years old. All her children attend the local school. The family live in the Bovel District where she and her husband farm wet season rice each year which is sold to provide the family income.
Mrs. Nary has been a farmer for over 20 years. Together with her husband she grows wet season rice on their paddy field which is one hectare in size and which yields a harvest of 2.5 tons of rice per hectare. The crops are then sold to a local middle man who buys direct from their farm. To increase their crops and thereby their income, she has applied for this 36 month loan to purchase an additional half-hectare of paddy field land so that they can grow more wet season rice. This will increase their annual harvest by 1.25 tons of rice.
