Ecuador
Doris Andrea is a 31-year-old entrepreneurial woman who lives in the Urcuqui area of the province of Imbabura, in northern Ecuador. Doris is a single mother of an 11-year-old son who is in high school. She has been raising pigs and chickens for three years to cover her household expenses. She takes care of them and feeds them daily for four months, and then sells them to the local inhabitants.
She started her business with two pigs and some chickens. Later, after selling them and using her savings, she was able to acquire more animals and now has two pigs and fifty chickens to run her business. To expand her business, Doris requests a loan of $500 to be repaid in 6 monthly instalments. She plans to invest $410 in the purchase of six pigs and $90 in the purchase of food to feed her pigs.
