Loan description:
Sokhon On is 31 years old and married to Mon Oet who is a year older. They do not have any children. They live in Doung Mea village, Prenorin commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. She has been a member of the Ek Phnom Credit Union since 1999. Sokhon and her husband are farmers. They own four hectares of rice paddy. During the dry season they grow water melons, cucumbers, peanuts and green beans on the same land. They have an extremely good yield of around four tonnes per hectare. They do not need to sell their agricultural products in the market, instead traders visit them and they negotiate the price in their field. Sokhon applied for a small loan from the credit union in order to buy good quality seeds and insecticide. She expects to repay the loan over eight months. For the future, she has plans to sell vegetables in bulk at Boeng Chhouk market for a higher price than she currently receives from the middlemen.
Loan added: 30 July 2011
