Jean is 45 years old potato farmer. He lives with his wife and their three children in Nyabihu district. All three of his children are going to a local school. His wife helps him within this farming activities. The soil in Nyabihu district fertilized and climate is good for agriculture.
Jean gets support from his wife and up to 10 temporary workers with his potato farming activities. He has been working as a farmer for over decades and specializes in growing Irish potatoes. Jean’s crops are doing well, but he has set himself a goal to increase his harvest by 15 tons each season. In order to achieve his growth targets, he decided to increase his farmland by hector, so with this aim in mind Jean has requested a loan to purchase a farmland, specific selected potato seeds and fertilizers for increasing the potato yields. He will use the remaining money to hire additional 5 temporary workers to assist him with preparing the land and planting the potato seeds and during the harvesting time. The reason he needs a lot of manpower on his farmland because everything is done manually. Farming manually is time consuming during the planting season and the harvesting season. The positive side is during these seasons lots of temporary works are created.
By increasing his farmland hopefully his potato yield will go up from 10 tonnes to 15 tonnes. This increased yield will help him improve his sales and profits and a portion of the money will go towards caring for his family. He promised to repay the loan back within six months with no default.
