Rogelio is 65 years old and lives with his wife Celestena in Cebu province. They have eight married children, who all live away from home. Since 2008, Rogelio has run his own business as a distributor of Pepsi products and a popular soft drink brand called Coca-Cola Philippines.
Rogelio has been running his business for 15 years and this year, he paid 7,000 pesos (£98.01) for the renewal of his business permit. On average he spends more than 30,000 pesos (£420.17) a week on soft drinks and beers (depending how much stock is leftover) - and spends more if there are fiesta celebrations in neighbouring villages. The stock is delivered to his house by his regular suppliers and he manages the deliveries himself, using his tricycle. Most of his customers are store operators in the village and some come from neighbouring areas.
Rogelio became a member of the coop four years ago and to date has repaid seven loans from MFI Lamac – all of which have helped his business grow. He is now seeking a new loan to buy soft drinks and beers in bulk, so that he can meet volume orders from his regular customers. He plans to repay the loan over eight months
