Mumtaz Begum

Mumtaz Begum lives in Malik Park, Badami Bagh. She is 42 years old, married with two sons and five daughters. Her and her husband are the two earning hands in the house. Mumtaz sews ladies clothes for her neighbours and people of her local area. She earns 4,000 Rupees per month (about £23). Her husband works in a private company and earns 12,000 Rupees per month (about £69). 3 of their children are getting an education, 2 are not yet at the age of schooling, while the 2 elder daughters have completed their basic education, and Mumtaz cannot afford to send them for higher studies. The family’s home expenses are higher than their income. Mumtaz reckons that she pays 4,000 Rupees for utility bills, 10,000 Rupees for food and clothing, and 3,000 Rupees for her children's education. She has decided to start sewing clothes at a higher pace; this is why she has applied for a loan. She has taught her daughters how to sew clothes, so they can participate in Mumtaz's business. She will visit Shah Alam market to buy a new sewing machine, yarn and laces with the money from her loan. She will be able to sew more clothes of different varieties, in bigger quantities. Her potential customers will increase. This loan will enable her to earn more, to better manage her household expenses, and to provide higher education to her children.
