Yolanda is 36 years old entrepreneur. She is separated, she has two daughters. One of her daughter is independent and the younger one is two years old. She lives with her family in their own house, made of rustic material based on cane and mud and it is located in the village of Piedra Grande.
To earn an income for supporting her family’s need Yolanda has been raising animals for more that 2 years. Her parents thought her about animals when she was growing up. Yolanda always wanted to be financially independent by generating her own income. Yolanda’s first income generating activity was selling skeins of wool. She then decided to start raising guinea pigs, she inherited some land from her parents and farms alfalfa on the land. She set up a shed and started raising and selling guinea pigs. She now has 200 guinea pigs but her target is to expand it. She also raises horses.
Yolanda sells guinea pigs on Sundays in the city of Cajabamba. On a weekly basis her average sales are 30 to 40 guinea pigs at s/25.00 soles (£5.47) each with a profit margin average of 35% of the total sale value. Yolanda feeds her guinea pigs the alfalfa she grows in her farmland. To earn more money Yolanda works in Trujillo for an agro-industrial company harvesting asparagus where she is paid s/50.00 soles (£10.94) a day.
Yolanda applied for a loan for buying more small guinea pigs, she will invest some of the money to buy pigs for raising and selling. She has lots of space for expanding her animal farming. Yolanda is sure that with the help of this loan she will be able to meet the demands of her clientele, she will continue to try and work every day to support her family.
