Mr. Borey is 29 years old farmer. He is married and has one six years old son. His son is going to school. He lives with his family in Phnom Srok District. He and his wife farm rice and cassava that are sold on the market every year which is their source of income to cover their family’s financial costs.
Mr. Borey and his wife farm wet season rice on a farmland that is four hectares. The harvested yield they get are two tons per hectare. The harvested crops are sold directly to their local middleman who buys the crops from their farm. Besides farming rice paddy, the couple also grows cassava on another plot of land which is also around four hectares. The yield the get from their cassava roots are 10 tons per hectare. To expand their cassava farming he applied for a 36 month loan to buy a hectare of farming land for growing more cassava. During the next cropping season, he hopes to plant his cassava on five hectares of farmland.
