Ecuador
Please note: Due to the current economic and social instability in Ecuador, the country is experiencing record levels of regional displacement and migration. While this is not a pattern we are seeing across the country, it is worth noting that during this time your loans in Ecuador may be at more risk of delay or non-repayment.
Ana Lucía lives in Gonzanamá, a small canton in the south of Ecuador. She is 37 years old and is married to Angel, with whom she has 3 children who are studying at school.
Together Ana and Angel have a small business raising and selling pigs and chickens. They also grow maize, beans, peas and sugar cane. They started this activity 15 years ago when Ana's parents gave them a piece of land as a present. When they started, they only grew beans, but over the years they bought a plot of land and sowed other crops. They also built some sheds to raise chickens.
Currently, Ana Lucia and her husband's microenterprise generates an average monthly income of $700 (£570). They also work as day labourers on neighbouring farms because the income from the microenterprise is not enough to cover household expenses. However, Ana is very grateful for this work, as they have been able to acquire their land and build their little house which, while still needing some repairs, is now a safe place to live.
Ana requires a loan of $3,000 (£2,440) to buy agricultural inputs and feed for the chickens and pigs. Please note the loan will be repaid in 8 quarterly instalments, rather than as monthly payments.
