The Al-Jannat Group comprises 5 members living in the district of Kasur. All of the group members are male smallholder farmers aged between 29 and 53. Amjad Ali is one of the members of the Al-Jannat Group. He is 38 years old and married. His family consists of 5 members. He is living with his wife and their three children. Two of his children are school going and other one is an infant. His wife takes care of all the household chores and looks after their infant child.
Amjad Ali owns around 7 acres of land, where he grows wheat in the winter and rice in the summer. On average he estimates that he earns around £1,140 profit per year in total from farming. One of the main challenges he and his group members face is not having their own tractor and it has been a continuous struggle renting a tractor.
The community group members visited our local partner AKHUWAT for requesting a loan so that they can solve the tractor renting issue. “As well as providing interest-free loans, Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance, Lendwithcare local partner organization in Pakistan, promotes agricultural extension and community development to enable farmers to improve their crop yield”.
Having a tractor will enable the group to use a tractor when they wish rather than waiting for one to become available. The members will also save on paying rent for a tractor. A tractor will also enable them to transport their crops to market.
