The Taha Group has 7 male members. They all live with their families in a village in the district of Kasur which is in the north-eastern of Pakistan. All of the group members are male smallholder farmers and they are between the ages of 43 and 58 years. In total, they have 46 dependents and 35 are children in their households, nineteen of the children are in school, six daughters takes care of the household chores and ten sons are looking for jobs or doing some labour work.
Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen is one of a member of Taha group. He is married with three children, two of them are getting education while one is looking for job. He owns 10 acres of land. He plants wheat in the winter and rice in the summer. On average, he estimates that he earns around £1,655 per year in total.
One of the main challenges he and his group members faces is being able to rent a tractor during the high season when all the farmers are busy preparing their farmlands and there are high demand for tractors but there are not enough tractors on rent for meeting the demands.
The Taha group members are requesting a loan from our local partner AKHUWAT. “As well as providing interest-free loans, Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance, Lendwithcare’s local partner organization in Pakistan, promotes agricultural extension and community development to enable farmers to improve their crop yield”.
He and his community group members will use the loan money to buy a tractor. Although there will be an initial outlay, in the long run, the group believe they will save money by not having to pay for renting a tractor. Having their own tractor will allow them to prepare their farmland on time like the other farmers who have their own tractors do. After all the members finish preparing their farmland they will be able to rent out the tractor to earn extra money to cover some of the loan repayments.
